A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up: a small titanium (or ceramic) post is placed into the jawbone, the bone fuses to it over several months in a process called osseointegration, and a crown is fitted on top. Done properly, an implant can last decades and feels like a natural tooth. Done carelessly, it can fail — and fixing a failed implant is far harder than placing one well the first time.
That is why the questions you ask before you travel matter more than the price. Any serious provider will welcome every one of these.
The questions to ask before you commit
- What implant system do you use? Established brands — such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare, and other major manufacturers — have decades of data and globally available parts, which matters if you ever need service closer to home.
- Will you take a 3D scan first? A CBCT scan lets the dentist assess bone volume and plan placement precisely. Implants planned from a flat photo are implants planned on hope.
- What are your sterilisation and infection-control protocols? A confident clinic answers this without hesitation.
- What is the dentist's experience with this exact procedure? Implantology is a specific skill; ask how many they place, and to see real case examples.
- Is there a guarantee on the implant, and what does it cover? Understand what happens if something goes wrong — and get it in writing.
- What is the aftercare plan once I fly home? Healing happens over months, back in your own country. Ask exactly how follow-up, and any complication, would be handled from a distance.
Why a facilitator helps
Vetting a clinic in another country, in another language, is hard to do alone. This is where an organiser earns its place: verifying credentials, confirming the clinic is what it claims to be, and staying an accountable point of contact through the whole journey — so you are not chasing answers across a border by yourself.
